By The Seashore and a Sketch

This week we have a wonderful sketch challenge from Create with Connie and Mary.   I just had to use a few of my pre-ordered goodies from the new Stampin' Up! Catalog for the sketch, plus a favorite current set, By the Seashore.

Isn't this new Lost Lagoon (the deeper aqua green) pretty!  It works perfectly with SU's Soft Sky color and the Hello Honey is very complimentary!
The papers in the background are from the new Moonlight DSP Stack.  The large dotted design also has Basic Gray in it, and that's what color the stamping is done in also.
I stamped the sand dollar and starfish onto Soft Sky cardstock then added some Lost Lagoon color with a Blender Pen.  I lightly used the White Chalk Marker to give some highlights and adhered them with Dimensionals.  I thought Pearls would look just right for this sea-themed card too!

Stamps:  By the Seashore, From My Heart (sentiment)
Inks:  Basic Gray, Lost Lagoon, White Chalk Marker
Paper:  Moonlight DSP; Soft Sky, Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey cardstock
Accessories:  Blender Pen, Big Shot, Dots Embossing Folder, Basic Pearls

Here is the great sketch we have this week:
Be sure to check out the cards by the other members of the Challenge Design Team then we hope you will take the challenge yourself to make a card using this sketch!  All the guidelines are on the same post as the Design Team's cards here:  Create with Connie and Mary.

Be sure to post your creation somewhere online then upload it to the CWCM website link!  We'd love to see what you do with it!

Thanks for visiting today!!  Stamp on!

Two More Spool Cards!

I have the two other spool cards to share with you today.  These are fun to make and I like that I can use up stamping left-over  and bits that make them unique. If you missed the first spool card, you can see it on yesterday's post by clicking  HERE.

The above card was made with Baked Brown Sugar cardstock, a pattern from the Etcetera DSP for the background and another pattern has the measuring tapes on it.   I can't remember which set has the sentiment in it as I made these a month ago!  I did use the Simply Pressed Clay for the flower which I painted with an ink refill and AquaPainter.  Other accessories are just from leftovers on my table or retired items.

Sahara Sand is the cardstock used for the base of this card and, like the other two cards, I stamped it with the Woodgrain background before decorating.  The same Etcetera DSP is used here as well as the Simply Pressed Clay flowers and some random items on my stamping table + some retired items.

I didn't have any written instructions but here's what I do:

1.  Cut cardstock for base at 3-3/4" x 11" and fold in half.  Stamp the front with the background stamp if desired.
2.  Still folded, place card onto the Envelope Punch Board with the long side snug up against the back ledge and the end at the 1-1/4 line and punch.  Flip over to punch the same side at the other end.  Then punch the opposite side of the card the same way.  Using your personal paper trimmer, cut off the tabs of cardstock between the divots you just punched.
3.  (Optional)  I also rounded the four corners by centering the (top or bottom) edge of the card into the little "tunnel" in the punch of the EPB and punching.
4.  Cut a piece of designer paper 3" square and adhere to center of "spool".  Decorate to your hearts content!

If you're not sure about the directions, just try making one using copy paper and looking at the picture before using your good supplies.  Have fun!  Sorry I didn't take any pictures while making these but I believe you can make one fairly easily!

Enjoy!

Envelope Punch Board "Spool" Card!

Happy Saturday, everyone!  We're happy here today as we are getting rain!!  YAY!!  We really need it too!

Today I have what I call a spool card since it looks like a spool of thread.  It's easy to get the shape using the Envelope Punch Board!!  I have a couple of others made and I'll get them posted tomorrow or the next day.

I made this one for a birthday and used up some retired and retiring items, and also the new Coastal Cabana Baker's Twine (I love that twine, don't you?)  The nice thing is you can use bits of ribbon and other items you have on hand to make your own creations.  Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!  : )

This type card would be lovely to send to a crafter, seamstress, quilter or anyone who appreciates something a little different!

Stamps:  Itty Bitty Banners, Remembering Your Birthday (inside), Woodgrain background.
Inks:  Strawberry Slush, Crumb Cake pads;  Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker on sentiment edge, Daffodil Blendabilities to color plastic rose.
Paper:  Sahara Sand and Whisper White cardstock.  Gingham Garden DSP
Accessories:  Envelope Punch Board, Bitty Banners Framelits, Coastal Cabana Baker's Twine, Victorian Trim, Strawberry Slush Ruffled Ribbon, Pearls, 1/8" Taffeta Old Olive Ribbon, Vintage Flowers Adornments (retired).

Updated:  I added two more spool cards and some simple directions for making these on my May 25th post here:  http://funstampin.blogspot.com/2014/05/more-spool-cards.html

Thanks for visiting!  Have a great weekend!

Gfits of Kindness CCMC304

This week we have a color challenge at Create with Connie and Mary; I wasn't sure at first what I would do with this color combination but really fell for it after I started to work with it! These are soft and lovely colors together: Soft Sky, Sahara Sand and Basic Gray!

I used my Gifts of Kindness set for the first time, stamping the image with Basic Gray onto Soft Sky cardstock then embossing it with  the Polka Dot TIEF.  I stamped the flowers a second time on scrap cardstock then punched out two flowers using the flower in the new Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and added them to the center of the largest two flowers.

I embossed a 1-1/2" x 4-7/8" strip of Sahara Sand cardstock with the Scallops TIEF, tied on a bow then adhered it to the card.  A little floral butterfly was added to the scallop strip and small Pearls were added to the body as well as the floral image.

The sentiment from Friendly Phrases was stamped on a banner with a smaller Basic Gray banner behind.  I was very pleased with the way it turned out and really like these colors together!

Stamps:  Gifts of Kindness, Friendly Phrases, Papillon Potpourri
Inks:  Basic Gray
Paper:  Basic Gray, Sahara Sand, Soft Sky
Accessories:  Embossing Folders:  Scallops, Polka Dot; Soft Sky Seam Binding Ribbon, Basic Pearls, Glue Dots, Bitty Butterfly Punch, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.

Here's the color scheme challenge for this week from Create with Connie and Mary:

Be sure to check out all the other beautiful creations by the Challenge Team at the Create with Connie and Mary website, then take the challenge yourself!!  All the guidelines are on the website; we can't wait to see what YOU do with it!!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Peaceful Petals Art CCMC303

Hi there!  Today we have a wonderful sketch from Create with Connie and Mary for our challenge 303; it's very simple and it offers SO many possibilities!  I chose to use my lovely Peaceful Petals set from the Occasions catalog; sadly this set is not in the new Annual Catalog which will be available soon.  I also used the new Work of Art set which is in the new catalog!

I chose a color scheme of Rich Razzleberry, Calypso Coral and Coastal Cabana with Whisper White.  On the top layer of white cardstock I first stamped the chevron stamp from Work of Art: I inked it with Stampin' Write Markers (water-based) and spritzed it from a distance to get just a small amount of moisture on it then stamped it.  Next, without reinking, I spritzed the chevron stamp again and stamped again, giving a very soft image.  The small scattered dots were stamped using a stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge set with Coastal Cabana ink.

In the top picture you can better see the random chevron texture which was achieved using our Chevron Embossing Folder; instead of running it through the Big Shot, I very carefully used a rubber mallet in random places on the card front.  I think this is a very cool technique; what do you think?

The largest flower stamp in the set was stamped with Memento Black ink onto Whisper White then colored with the Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities Marker set of three and the center with Daffodil Delight Blendabilities Markers.  The flower stem is handcut Whisper White colored with Coastal Cabana Markers; the leaves were stamped then colored with the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities and cut out.    The Rhinestones were colored with the Blendabilities Markers, which we can now do because the Blendabilities are alcohol-based!!  (YAY!! BIG SMILE on my face!!)

Stamps:  Peaceful Petals, Work of Art*, Gorgeous Grunge
Inks:  Memento Tuxedo Black*, Rich Razzleberry, Coastal Cabana and Calypso Coral Stampin' Write Markers (water-based).  Rich Razzleberry, Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana Blendabilities Markers*
Paper:  Whisper White and Calypso Coral
Accessories:  Paper Snips, Spritzer, Rhinestones, Chevron Embossing Folder, rubber mallet,

*new in upcoming 2014-15 Annual Stampin' Up! Catalog

Here is the sketch for this week:  Isn't this easy and open to your imagination?!!

Be sure and join us this week by making a card or project using this sketch; the challenge guidelines are on the Create with Connie and Mary website.  While there, be SURE to look at the cards of the other Challenge Team Members... they are so talented and inspiring!!

Peachy Keen! CCMC302

We have a great color challenge today from Create with Connie and Mary!  I think Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay make a bright, springy and fun combination for creating, don't you?!

I haven't used this Peachy Keen set near enough but coral sounded Peachy to me and I went right to it, lol!  Two strips of DSP and one of Daffodil Delight Ribbon were added to the Polka Dot embossed Whisper White cardfront.  Bermuda Bay cardstock is the card base.

I just love the Petite Petals set and punch combination;  I find myself using them on SO many projects, they are such a great size and so pretty.  I often add a little color to them with a Blender Pen before punching them out as I did here.  I sponged the edges of the Whisper White circle with Daffodil ink before adhering it to the card and adding the flowers.  Then I used Dazzling Details in the center of each flower to give them some sparkle.  There you have it, a fresh spring-y card ready to send to Mom for her day or even add a thank you inside to acknowledge a gracious deed!  Versatile!

Stamps:  Peachy Keen, Petite Petals
Inks:  Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight
Paper:  Subtles Paper Stack, Brights Paper Stack;  Bermuda Bay, Whisper White.
Accessories:  Polka Dot Embossing Folder, Big Shot, 2.5" Circle Punch, Petite Petals Punch, Daffodil Delight 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, Blender Pen, Bird Builder Punch (leaves), Dazzling Details.

Monday Road Trip for Catalog Premiere!

Monday several fellow demos and myself took a fun road trip to Tulsa to attend the first ever Stampin' Up! New Catalog Premiere!  It is always fun to spend some time with friends; I wanted to have a little something to give them for the trip.

The Chevron Tag a Bag Gift Bags were just what I needed and I found the perfect stamp, well, really a wheel, the Shop Around Wheel.  I just inked it up with a marker to stamp only the part of the wheel I wanted.  Next I cut it out with the ever-useful Chalk Talk Framelit... a perfect fit!!

I folded the top, added a Tea Lace Paper Doily and a banner cut from the beautiful Eastern Elegance DSP.  Next I tied a 20" length of Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon around the sack, tied on the tag with Linen Thread and attached a flower.  The flower was made by punching another print of the Eastern Elegance DSP with the Pansy punch and layering it with a Coastal Cabana flower punched with the Petite Petals punch then centered with a Pearl

I filled the bags with several essentials for a road trip:  a packet of tissues, gum and of course, chocolates!  : )   Love these little Chevron Tag a Bag Gift Bags!  See pg. 158-9 in the catalog for more ideas of how to decorate them.  They hold just enough!   When I was figuring out what I wanted to gift, I saw a post by Cindee Wilkerson that inspired me.  Thanks, Cindee!

The Catalog Premiere was fun and it was enjoyable to see familiar faces from Stampin' Up! presenting various aspects of the catalog and demonstrating projects using new products:  CEO Shelli Gardner, Donna Griffin, Shannon West, Carrie Cudney, Brian Pilling and Bonnie Thurber.  Plus we each received a free stamp set from the new Catalog!!  I'll be making some samples with it soon!

Here is a picture of the front of the new catalog (that's all I'm allowed to show currently.)  It has 249 pages as compared to the current catalog with 209!

It's filled with lots of new stamps, accessories and more new products!!  How exciting!

Demonstrators may pre-order selected new products now.  Customers will be able to order beginning  June 2.

Remember that current items on the retiring lists are available only as long as supplies last.

You may see the updated retiring lists here:

  • Retiring Stamps (Available April 21-June 4, 2014, or while supplies last)
  • Retiring Accessories (Available April 21-June 4, 2014, or while supplies last)
Thanks for dropping by today!  Have a great weekend!
