I used the Newsprint Designer Series Paper for the background of my layout over layers of Basic Black and Blushing Bride. Before applying the Newsprint, I first brayered the inside top of my Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder with Basic Black, inserted the piece of Newsprint and ran this through the Big Shot. This put the ink only on the areas that were not raised. Fun technique, just be aware that you'll never get the black off your brayer, even though when thoroughly cleaned you can still use it for any color, even light ones.
On the other end of the layout is Very Vanilla cardstock, embossed with the same Vintage Wallpaper Folder. A piece of Black cardstock diecut with the Tasteful Trim Die hides the seam and gives a contrasting accent.
This is the Sketch #175 Mary Jo gave us to use this week. I tried to use something other than a flower but my thoughts kept going back to SU's great flower dies so I went with this one that I enjoy using so much! : )
This also fulfilled the SUO Challenge 19 May Flowers are Here this week.
The flower is diecut from Blushing Bride cardstock, then the edges sponged with the same color ink and the petals shaped with the Bone Folder. I punched out a Black flower (to keep the color scheme focused) with the Five Petal Flower Punch and cut it apart to use for the leaves.
The center of the flower is a 5/8" Neutral Brad (I used Chocolate); I colored it black with a Sharper marker then spread it with Mono Multipurpose Liquid Glue and dipped it into Black coarse glitter from the Chunky Essentials pack (Red, White, Silver and Black... love that stuff!). After it was dry, I assembled my flower with this as my center. It really pops on this flower! The final details are a tag stamped with "friends" from the Tiny Tags set punched out with the Jewelry Tag Punch laid over a wee bit of 1/8" Black Taffeta Ribbon.

I hope you enjoy my card today; it was fun to do and will also be fun to give to a long-time friend.
Please remember the tornado victims in Joplin, MO, here in Oklahoma and around the country where people are suffering from natural disasters. I've made a donation to Samaritan's Purse to help these folks. Would you consider donating to the relief organization of your choice if you can? Or perhaps you can donate blood to your local blood bank. Thank you for your compassion. Here are two links (among many reputable relief organizations):

Thank you for visiting! I hope you have a safe and good weekend and Memorial Day Holiday. We honor and remember our veterans this weekend also. We have so much for which to be thankful.
Hugs,
Margaret
